Usually you only need to run the eggdrop with -m to make a (new) user / chan file.
When you disconnect the bot , next time you only have to run it with
| Code: | | eggdrop yourconfigfile.conf |
If that still doesnt work, but you can see no errors , you might want to try and run it as
| Code: | | eggdrop -n yourconfig.conf |
or
| Code: | | eggdrop -mn yourconfig.conf |
-m doesnt load the bot in background, but in the screen itself. Then you can see all that happens in / with bot. |

I have exactly the same issue here.
Initialy started ./eggdrop -m to create the user file and it worked perfect.
Then shut the bot down and restarted it normaly without the -m and it launches into the background like you would expect with no errors and then thats it it does nothing else. no server connect, no channel join... nothing.
Shut it down again and start it with -n so i can see what is going on and it connects exactly how it should to the server and channel with no errors at all.
Launched in foreground it runs perfect
Launched into background it does nothing
| Code: | Eggdrop v1.6.17 (C) 1997 Robey Pointer (C) 2004 Eggheads

Launched into the background (pid: 13747) |
as you can see no errors at all |

Dear Larkspeed,
1) Did you msg'd your bot "Hello" when you started first time with './eggdrop -m' ?
2) Did you set your "nickname" and "password" in your bot's partyline before shutting down ?
If you didn't do anything maybe someone else set himself as a bot owner, check out if there any '.user' file in your eggdrop directory, If there any such file exist then be guided from Eggdrop FAQ

Do you actually have a channel defined in the conf? And are you certain it's not connecting to the network?
Check network type and that server list is correctly defined.
PS: Nothing to do with upgrading Tcl. _________________ Add [SOLVED] to the thread title if your issue has been.

yes channel is defined and network stuff is correct too cus if it were not it would not connect when it is launched with the -n switch to keep it in the foreground.
it only does not work if it is launched with no switches so it drops to the background |

Change your 'vhost' and then try, if TELNET isn't working then change Listening Port in your .conf file and try again. _________________ I'm an idiot, At least this one [bug] took about 5 minutes to find... |

Did that and still the same thing.
No matter what I do the bot runs perfect if it is running in the forground but does nothing once launched to the background.
This is getting a bit irritating as it means I have to keep a second console logged in all the time and I can't use a script to make sure the bot is still running.
up until 6 months ago I had an eggdrop running for nearly a year with no issues now this.
i'm thinking it could possiblly be something to do with the server motd and services messages sent out to each new person connecting to the server is there anyway to tell eggdrop to just ignore them?
Tho saying that my previous eggdrop ran fine on the same server with no issues. |

When you use:
... does a message appear in the terminal saying "launched into the background" ?
Notice that the above command uses *no* flags.
PS: You do not wish to ignore services either for rather obvious reasons. _________________ Add [SOLVED] to the thread title if your issue has been.

Setting up an Eggdrop
I suggest deleting the bot directory and follow the steps contained in the link (above). There is also no need to shut down the bot after it's started with the '-m ' option and then restarting it. _________________ Add [SOLVED] to the thread title if your issue has been.

this install insctructions given in that thread are exactly what I did do and have done with all eggdrops I have installed in the past.
Alchera i'm sorry if this seems snarky but you do not apear to be fully reading my posts before answering.
The bot works fine provided I do not let it launch into the background in other words if I use the -N switch.
It does not work however if launched into the background as stated above with a screen shot it gives no errors and gives every indication that it has started up fine yet does nothing |
