I just intalled eggdrop for the first time . . but it won't load.

I installed it as root, but chown'd it all to my username since it said it couldnt run on root. Any ideas why I'm getting a "permission denied" message? I apologize in advance for my newbie-ness

Did you chmod/chown the top directory?

I wouldn't install it in 'root's' dir, I'd put it in as a regular username.. But in any case, obviously you need to chmod or chown something.

Set up a normal user account, login and then compile your eggdrop.

Having read the information regarding eggdrop and root you still chose to ignore?

being a newbie i didnt read the stuff about eggdrop and root . . really i have about an hour of free time a day and just wanted to install it and have it work ;x damn complicated things. I'll try starting fresh from my regular user shell
