Have you tried starting eggdrop with a conf file?
Example: ./eggdrop -m eggdrop.conf

Silly question time:- have you edited the conf file to suit your needs and removed the 2 (or 3) die lines?

Are you trying to run this on a local machine, or a remote shell?
If attempting this on a remote shell, you may want to contact the shell server administration.
