Passwords are hashed, meaning there is no easy way to retrieve the plaintext password by reading the userfile.
If you are the botowner, the simplest solution would probably be to remove the password from the userfile, and then create a new one.
Another option might be to add a line such as this at the end of your config-file, restart your bot, and then remove the line again.
| Code: | | setuser <your handle here> PASS <new pass here> |
If you are not the botowner, contact the owner or a master, and ask them to reset your password. _________________ NML_375, idling at #eggdrop@IrcNET |

Check your configfile for the "userfile" setting, that should reveal what your configfile is named _________________ NML_375, idling at #eggdrop@IrcNET |

Did you make sure your bot was not running while you edited your userfile?
If not, all changes will be overwritten as the bot stops/reloads... _________________ NML_375, idling at #eggdrop@IrcNET |

.user~bak has to be deleted also. There is not just one .user file (usually). _________________ Add [SOLVED] to the thread title if your issue has been.

did all suggested but still got major probs.
started afresh
bot loads and reconizes me but that about all it does.
cant set a pass dcc chat or ctcp chat
bot answers basic msgs but thats all.
when i first set the bot up all seem to work fine is there anything on the operating system that could cause these probs
ive switch off firewall and even remove router but nothing seems to correct these probs.
sorry to be so obscure but im really a new thickie to all this so would appreciate any input
forgot to say i am the bot owner
many thanks |

Lets try a little recap here, using the advice already given.
1) kill the bot.
2) remove the user and user.bak file
3) restart the bot with the -m switch (to re-create the user file)
4) msg the bot with hello
ooops 5~) do the usual set password etc
This should fix your problem. However if you already done this and it still don't work then I can only guess there is another problem.
Best of luck |
