One thing that comes to mind however, is "restricted connection" (also known as i-line). If your eggdrop gets a restricted connection, it'll usually try a different server until it gets a "normal" (I-line) connection. This can me circumvented with a config-setting, however, while your bot is on a restricted connection, it will not be able to operate fully, including not being able to obtain op or op others, kick offenders off your channels, change channel-modes, or change its own nick.
