Just a random thought here..

If this is on a "public shell box" where you can purchase shell access or if you're even able to find the "free" ones anymore these days..

Perhaps they restrict you from running eggdrops on that particular box.

Thats the full output from when you type ./eggdrop eggdrop.conf (or ./eggdrop -m eggdrop.conf) ?
