Tcl "hall of fame" script nominations

Post by slennox »

As mentioned on the home page, I'm accepting nominations for scripts that will make up a new "hall of fame" section. The main purpose of the new section will be to showcase the best Tcl scripts available for Eggdrop.

Since I haven't done this before, it's going to be a very open-ended process, possibly ending with a final poll following the nominations. But I think the following framework should apply:
  • Best-of-category scripts will form the basis of the "hall of fame". Categories might include scripts for storing/retrieving information (i.e. "info" or "dictionary" scripts), seen scripts, repeat detector scripts, limiting scripts, anti-spam scripts, and so on.
  • Outside of that, there will be unique or innovative scripts which don't necessarily fit into one of the major categories. However, scripts of a highly specialised nature that are only likely to appeal to a small number of people should be avoided.
  • Nominated scripts must be compatible with the current version of Eggdrop (1.6.13).
  • Scripts written by myself (and any derived from them unless substantially transformed) are excluded, since they are already displayed prominently on the site.
  • People will not be able to nominate their own scripts :)
To nominate a script, simply reply to this message with your nomination and a few words on why you think the script is worthy. Note that this is not an opportunity to express yourself by simply pasting a list of scripts you use -- you are helping to select the best scripts that will appeal to a wide range of people.

The thread is also open to discussion on the scripts people have nominated.

Also you should think to the nominations for *Hall of Lame* scripts :)

Scripts should never be put down.

Most scripts are a first attempt at a public script, and as such, may be usful to some, but seems lame to others.

The Hall of Fame idea, is to present the better ones, and catagorise most

If I can nominate a module, it would have to be stats.mod for its livestats and easy configuration. Otherwise, I would have to say the egghttp for how many times it has saved fugging with the other http package.

I have to say, egghttp doesn't realy apply.

However, items like this should have there only little section, as they are a API to other scripts.

Eh.
Categories might include scripts for storing/retrieving information (i.e. "info" or "dictionary" scripts)
I figured it was covered by this, as a data fetching tool (info fetching tool..). Much like other utilities such as host lookups, whois database querys, weather scripts, and google scripts. If all of these don't apply, I dont think you can really declare the most popular script seeing as a good chunk of the popular scripts are utilities from what I have seen. If my vote is indeed not valid, I vote for another category!

I nominate netbots eventhough the author is a little odd <g>

I also nominate bseen -- the first of many good seen related scripts.

The categories I listed are examples, not a comprehensive list you are restricted to.

Many little bugs? Sounds like a candidate for my other thread.

What little bugs are they?

First, I was kidding with the hall of lame. Second, I think gseen module is kick ass for a seen thing. :)
I also like the Unloadtcl by Wingman or Allscripts by Papillon to load and unload tcl's via party line and other stuff. Trivia by Souperman for trivia, doh! :)
Once the game is over, the king and the pawn go back in the same box.
